Jon’s Flying Chair
At least ten years ago in a conversation with former Sky Knight Robert Bacci, Jon mentioned that he wanted to fly from a chair. So Robert found some plans from AMA member Ed Henry and the saga began. Hundreds of work hours later we see Jon and his chair in action at our field. It’s old school – all mechanical, no buddy boxes or wireless back then. The old four channel Futaba Conquest radio (donated by Dave Wurzbach after Jon’s original one met with an untimely end) sports an arduino-based conversion using a DX4E rf module. Thus any Spektrum based four channel plane can be flown from the chair. Jon says the hardest part to master is working the rudder pedals.
